LHSAA roundup: Delhi beat Delta Charter 36-10

FERRIDAY — The Delhi High School Bears showed why they are one of the top teams in LHSAA Class 1A with a 36-10 win over the Delta Charter School Storm Friday night in District 2-1A action.

Delhi, the No. 5 team in the Class 1A power ratings, jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter and was never seriously threatened.

Delta Charter managed a field goal nearly midway through the second quarter, but the Bears scored two more touchdowns to go into halftime with a 30-3 advantage.

Even though the Bears (5-1, 2-1) didn’t score again until the 3:30 mark of the fourth quarter, the Storm only managed one touchdown and that was in the third quarter.

Delta Charter (1-5, 0-3) travels to St. Joseph, La. to take on district foe Tensas High School Friday at 7 p.m.

Vidalia 34, General Trass 18

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. — The Vidalia High School Vikings overcame a rough second quarter to defeat General Trass High School in the Panthers’ homecoming game 34-18 Friday night to remain undefeated in LHSAA District 2-2A.

Vidalia jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game and led General Trass 18-6 by the end of the first quarter. General Trass (4-2, 0-2) stormed back in the second quarter to make it a tie ball game at 18-18 by halftime.

But the Vikings’ defense kept the Panthers off the scoreboard in the second half while Tristan Weatherly threw two touchdown passes to help them pull away for the hard-fought road victory.

Vidalia (5-1, 3-0) hosts Concordia Parish and district rival Ferriday High School Friday at 7 p.m.

Denham Springs 63, Ferriday 20

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — The LHSAA Class 5A Denham Springs High School Yellowjackets used two touchdowns late in the first half to eventually pull away for a 63-20 win over the Class 2A Ferriday High School Trojans Friday night.

“We gave up a lot of big plays. Offensively, we just didn’t execute,” Trojans head coach Stanley Smith said. “It just wasn’t a good night for us. We didn’t finish plays. We were undisciplined.”

Da’minya Milligan scored on a seven-yard run and Kobe Dillon’s 2-point conversion pass to Jamien Green cut Denham Springs’ lead to 21-14 with about 5 left in the first half. Then the Yellowjackets scored twice in less than a minute to take a 35-14 lead into halftime.

The Trojans trailed 42-14 before Milligan returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, but Denham Springs (4-2) would regain control and score the game’s final 21 points.

Ferriday (3-3, 2-0) plays at Vidalia High School Friday at 7 p.m.

St. Frederick 35, Sicily Island 28

MONROE, La. — The St. Frederick High School Warriors held off a second-half rally by Sicily Island High School to defeat the Tigers 35-28 Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

St. Frederick (4-2, 2-1) appeared to be in control the game after taking a 21-6 lead into halftime. But Sicily Island would not go away quietly as they chipped away at the double-digit deficit.

Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to get over the hump.

Sicily Island (3-3, 1-2) hosts Delhi High School in an important district game Friday at 7 p.m.
