Accident still being investigated

NATCHEZ — Natchez police are still investigating a Wednesday traffic accident that claimed the life of an 82-year-old school crossing guard, officials said.

Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said the body of the victim, Johnny Burr of Rice Road, Natchez, is scheduled for an autopsy to determine whether he was killed in the impact of the crash or whether he could have died of a health matter prior to impact.

Investigators also are investigating the scene of the accident, Armstrong said, to determine who was at fault in the accident that happened as Burr was attempting to drive his vehicle across St. Catherine Street from Brenham Avenue to get to Auburn Avenue when his vehicle was struck in the driver’s side door by an oncoming SUV.
