Monterey High, Ferriday High end basketball regular season Friday

MONTEREY— Three of the four Louisiana High School Athletic Associations basketball teams finish up their seasons on Friday.

For boys basketball, Monterey High Wolves and Ferriday High Trojans play in their final games of the season on Friday. Meanwhile, Delta Charter School Storm and Vidalia High Vikings will finish up their seasons on Feb. 18.

All four schools are trying to be part of the top 32 teams in the respective LHSAA Class power ratings. The top 32 teams will play in the Class playoffs.

Out of the four high schools, Monterey High Wolves basketball teams are in the top 10 of the LHSAA B-District 2 power ratings. In the boys basketball power ratings, the Wolves are No. 9 with an overall record of 21-4 and a power rating of 40.90.

The Wolves picked up their eighth straight victory on Feb. 7 with a 52-49 win in overtime over district foe Glenmora. Ethan Clark led Monterey with 18 points, perfect from the free-throw line and led the Wolves with 10 defensive rebounds.

Trey Boyd was second on the Wolves squad with 14 points and six defensive rebounds. Philip Atkins scored nine points in the game as well.

Monterey’s final game of the season is against Class B-District 2 foe in No. 25 Oak Hill High School. The last time both teams squared off was on Jan. 28 where Monterey won 43-31. Tip off is at 7 p.m. Friday at Monterey High School.

The Ferriday High Trojans are ranked No. 26 in the LHSAA Class 2A power ratings. Ferriday’s overall record is 8-12 with a power rating of 28.31.

Ferriday ended a two-game losing streak with a 76-71 victory over District 2 foe of Mangham High School Dragons on Feb. 7. Derrick Carson led the Trojans with 27 points and Jamarrius Johnson was second with 14 points.

The final game of the season is against the No. 39 Beekman Charter Tigers of Class 2A-District 2. Tip off is at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Ferriday High School.

Delta Charter School and Vidalia High

Delta Charter comes in with the second highest power rating at No. 22 in LHSAA Class 2A.  The Storm have a power rating of 23.86 and an overall record of 4-15. In Delta Charter’s latest game, they played against District 2 foe of Sicily Island High Bears. The Bears won 64-56 over the Storm.

The Storm will play against District 2 foe Cedar Creek School Cougars on Thursday. Tip off is at 7 p.m. Thursday at Delta Charter School.

Delta Charter will wrap up the season with a road game against Class C Epps High School in Epps, Louisiana. Tip off is at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at Epps High School.

Meanwhile, the Vidalia Vikings are seeded No. 44 in the LHSAA Class 2A power ratings.

The Vikings last game was against Delhi Charter on Feb. 7. Delhi Charter came away with a 71-56 victory over Vidalia. Ray J Ransom led the Vikings with 25 points and Curtis Washington was second with 19 points.

Vidalia will play on Friday against No. 2 seed Rayville High School. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Vidalia High School.
