Delta Charter School Storm defeat Bolton High Bears

FERRIDAY — Delta Charter School pitching and bats came alive in the 9-1 victory over Bolton High School on Thursday night.

Payten Roberts led the Storm with three RBIs in the game. Chandler Harrison scored two RBIs.

“I came out with the mindset of putting the ball in play and let the defense try and work,” Roberts said. “It worked for me.”

Delta Charter School scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Roberts collected his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Blake Grayson from third.

Roberts scored his third run of the game with a single to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored Grayson from third base.

Roberts led the Storm with three RBIs and went one for three at the plate.

“Payten has been on the up rise since the beginning of the season. He was batting deep in the lineup and he has steadily been moving up,” said Buddy Brown, Delta Charter assistant coach. “Tonight he batted in the No. 2 spot. He came through huge and that was big for us. He had a couple of big hits and RBIs.”

With two runners on and one out, Harrison hit a single to left field and scored Drew Brown from third base for the third run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Harrison scored two runs in the game for the Storm.

“Chandler has been swinging a hot bat all year,” Brown said. “He has batted leadoff for us and has done a good job. Anywhere we put him he usually comes through at least once a game.”

On the mound for Delta Charter, Landon Davis pitched three and two-thirds of an inning. Davis struck out eight batters and gave up one hit.

“I thought my pitching was a lot better than it has been,” Davis said. “I had a rough start and couldn’t find the zone anywhere against ACCS. I came out confident today, knowing that I was going to lead the team. I told my teammates to hop on my back.”

Preston Higgins came into the top of the fourth inning with two outs. He struck out two batters and walked two batters out of the bullpen for the Storm.

Roberts shut the Bears down in the top of the sixth and seventh. Roberts struck out two Bolton High batters and gave up no runs.

Delta Charter has an overall record of 3-7.
