ACCS football player signs to play at Jones College

NATCHEZ — A dream came true for an Adams County Christian School football player on Wednesday night.

Yohan Thompson signed his letter of intent to play for the Jones College Bobcats in Ellisville next season.

“It’s a blessing and a dream come true,” Thompson said. “I always wanted to play at the next level. I think every high school football player can agree that it’s something that not many players can have the opportunity to continue playing.”

Thompson played a variety of positions for the Rebels last season. He was the kicker, punter, wide receiver and defensive back for ACCS.

As the kicker, Thompson kicked nine out of 12 extra points and went one-for-one on field goals. In the season, he punted the football 10 times for an average of 32.38 yards.

On the offensive side, Thompson caught the ball 10 times for 196 yards. He caught two passes for touchdowns.

On defense, he made 44 total tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

David King, ACCS head football coach, said he is going to remember a play that Thompson made in the 2018 MAIS Class 3A semifinal game against Heritage Christian Academy.

“I will remember Yohan making a bone-jarring tackle on the sidelines,” King said. “It stirred up their crowd and got our crowd fired up. I think that was a huge play in that game.”

Thompson is not the first in his family to play at Jones College. His older brother, Cristofer Thompson, was the place kicker for the Bobcats last season. Cristofer Thompson is playing for Alcorn State University next fall.

“I think him playing there and me going to see how nice the campus and how good of a football program they have, I just fell in love with Jones College,” Yohan Thompson said. “I’m blessed and thankful for the opportunity. I have Coach King, my family and the Lord to thank. It’s an honor to go where my brother played and I’m lucky to be able to do it.”
