Farmers market adds weekday event
NATCHEZ — Local growers and buyers of fresh produce, meats and dairy products will have a second day each week to shop and sell at the Downtown Natchez Farmer’s Market.
The weekly Pop Up Market, which has been hosted every Saturday on Broadway Street, will also occur every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. starting May 26, said Director Eddie Burkes.
Burkes said between 300 and 400 people have been shopping at the Saturday Pop Up Market between 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and a lot of farmers have been selling out of food before the market is scheduled to end.
“The Saturday market has gotten to be so busy and a lot of the farmers can only pick so much for one market,” Burkes said. “What has happened is a lot of them are selling out of produce before noon and they need another day to sell their product.”
Burkes said having a second market is a win, win for both the farmers and the consumers.
“The demand for fresh produce has grown so much. Those who are shopping won’t have to stock up for a full week. Also, some people can’t get to the market until the afternoon. This way, they’ll have another opportunity during the week to shop,” Burkes said. “We are happy that the community continues to support the farmers market.”
